A graduate of New York University’s School of Law (LLM 1985), María Alejandra Eisenmann was born in Panama City, Republic of Panama. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Law from Universidad Santa María La Antigua, Panama’s Catholic University (USMA, 1983).

A founding partner of both Eisenmann & Dutari and Eisenmann Abogados y Consultores EAC, Ms Eisenmann has practiced law since 1985. She specializes in international private and public law, commercial, corporate, and real estate law, as well as in foreign investments, family affairs, and litigation. She was appointed Arbiter and Conciliator of the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), an agency of the World Bank. Member of "Instituto Iberoamericano de Derecho Aeronáutico y del Espacio y de la Aviación".

She was Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from september 1999 to september 2002 and served as Acting Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs on many occasions during the above mentioned period. And participated in official missions to several countries and international organizations including the United Nations (UN), the Organization of American States (OAS), the European Union, Guatemala, Chile, Mexico, Brazil, Nicaragua, Belice, Barbados, Jamaica, Spain, The Netherlands, Japan, India, Korea and Taiwan and headed Panama’s delegations to Ministerial Meetings of the Association of Caribbean States in Trinidad & Tobago (1999) and Honduras (2000) as well as to the Meeting of the Special Commission for the Study of the Application of the Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction held in The Hague, Netherlands, between March 22-28, 2001.

For her contribution to the enhancement of relations between Panama and Mexico as well as Panama and Brazil, she received the Aztec Eagle National Medal (June 2001) and the Rio Branco National Order ( July 2003).
